Agriculture is production of fiber, feed, food and the other goods by synthetic growing or harvesting of the animals and plants and other forms of life. “Agriculture” commonly refers to study of process of performing agriculture. Agriculture is also called as “Agricultural Sciences” and “Agronomy”.

Agriculture encompasses so many subjects like cultivation, aquaculture, horticulture and animal husbandry. These subjects are further classified: for example, both intensive farming and organic farming come under cultivation and herding, ranching and farming of pigs come under animal husbandry. Fodder like sugar, starch, resins and alcohols, fibers like hemp, wool, cotton, flax and silk, fuels like methane biomass, biodiesel and ethanol, cut flowers, nursery and ornamental plants, birds and tropical fish for pet trade, both illegal and legal drugs like tobacco, biopharmaceuticals, marijuana, cocaine, opium, all come under Agricultural products.

The agricultural history is the human historys central element. The crucial feature in the worldwide socio-economic variations is the agricultural progress. Militaristic and wealth-building specializations rarely found in the hunter-gatherer cultures form a commonplace in the agro-industrial societies. It was said that – Agriculture is required to develop the civilization of the country.

Intentionally planting a crop on a very large scale (for other than pasture or cereal production) is called Plantation. Fundamentally, Plantation is a large estate or a farm which is usually in a semi-tropical or in a tropical country on which tobacco, coffee, cotton, trees or sugarcane etc., are cultivated by the resident laborers. The term, currently, is often used for planting shrubs and trees. The term is also used for the plantings that are maintained on the economic bases.

Crop is called the plantation crops for the association they have with a unique farming economy. Most of them involve a really large land owner, the raising crops with an economic value instead of for subsistence, with a very huge number of employees doing the work. It often refers to the crops recently introduced to any region.

In past, it has been allied with indentured labour, slavery and other high inequity economic models.

Industrial plantations, for production of a very high amount of wood during a short period of time are to be grown by the wood or paper industries, authorities of state forestry or private land owners. Home or farm plantations are normally established for production of fire wood and timber for sale and some times for home use. Environmental plantations are established for soil or watershed protection. These are usually established for the landslide stabilization, erosion control and windbreaks. Plantings of shrubs or trees grown for beverage or food like tea, cocoa, coffee, back pepper etc., come under high valued crops.

On graduating and/or post graduating in discipline of Agriculture and the allied sciences, career options and the opportunities in teaching, transfer-of-technology streams and research in SAU, Non government industry or organization are many. Even the banks are advancing loans and credits for the agri-based projects to employ the agricultural specialists. Avenues are all multifaceted entirely depending on competence. Thus, today, agriculture and plantation industries are providing a good employment for the educated as well as the laborers.
