Marketing is a field that is concerned with analyzing and determining consumer needs, working to build a product or service to cater to those needs and endeavoring to shape the consumer towards the products and services put in place. Marketing is viewed as basic to any businesses growth. The marketers are given the job of creating consumer awareness of the products or services through various marketing practices. Unless this amount of care and attention to its products and services and consumers’ demographic nature and desires is paid, a business will not usually thrive over a sustained period of time.

Marketing initially is involved in market research to forecast future trends/ needs. After that it only comes into the picture one a product is ready for sale. It then consists of 3 broad based tasks: Advertising, Distribution and Selling. Marketing is therefore referred to often as a creative industry. Nowadays, with the widespread reach and use of cable television, mobile phones, internet and other forms of communication, marketing has occupied an even greater role in a company’s structure and a major part of its’ budget is directed towards marketing and related uses. Marketing professionals therefore are well placed to make a flourishing career in most cases.

Eligibility & Requirements:
Marketing doesn’t require a very high educational qualification. A Bachelors degree in any field is a sufficient qualification for this job. But, more importantly considering the dynamic nature of the job, there are other factors that determine a professional’s success in this field. Among them are ability to clearly and concisely communicate and present your thoughts, ideas, and information (both in writing and verbally), ability to adapt (both physically and professionally) to various work & consumer environments, mental & physical preparedness to travel long distances (even in adverse conditions) and under all these constraints, to never fall behind on consistent delivery and efficiency of performance. On the knowledge side, it is important to be able to recognize problems and develop suitable a plan of action, to organize and understand complex data and to be have the mind to generate, assimilate and take forward new ideas as a group.

Career Prospects:
A career in marketing is enjoyable, fun, rewarding and challenging at the same time. In most Indian companies, the common corporate positions in the field are- brand manager, marketing manager, market research analyst, new product manager etc. Due to the abundance in opportunities, it is therefore not difficult to find institutes that offer marketing courses in India. Most companies conduct in house specific marketing programs for graduates to make them aware of the marketing practices already in place in their firm. With the big players, both Indian and globally entering the Indian market in newer and newer fields, there is a huge amount of products and services that require extensive branding and advertising. The Indian marketing scenario is one of the biggest consumer markets and the explosive growth of global trade and the international competition, technological change has already made the marketing man’s job a very financially viable position in any company. This trend is poised to only increase in the coming years.
