Nagaland is a hill state forming the north-eastern border of our nation, India. Kohima is the capital city of this state. Dimapur is the biggest city of Nagaland. It is also one of the smallest states of India. As Nagaland is a mountainous state it is rich with flora and fauna. Nagaland comprises of 11 districts in all. Major towns in this state are Dimapur, Kohima, Mokokchung, Wokha, Tuensang, Mon, Zunheboto etc. Like any other north-eastern frontier states, education is still a back drop in this region. Christianity is the majority religion here where 90 percent of the state’s population are constituted by them. Nagaland University is one of the well known education centre in the state of Nagaland. Also English is the official language of the state apart from Hindi which is spoken by many in Nagaland. This makes Nagaland a place where one can come and reside for employment purpose.
The state is completely covered by tropical forests which encourage employment through forest official jobs. Apart from these jobs, there are many other jobs that are prevalent in Nagaland in sectors such as mechanical engineering, Information technology (IT), Call Centre, Biotech, Nursing jobs etc. From past few years Nagaland has become rich in career resources. Many changes were reflected which started to change the economic theme of the state. The main occupation in this state is Agriculture since 90 percent of the population have engaged themselves in the production of rice, millets, oilseeds, potatoes, tobacco, sugarcane and fibres. But still Nagaland depends on import of basic amenities. Cottage industries also dwell in this region which offer various employment options like weaving, finishing etc. Nagaland also persists employment offers in woodwork and pottery which by large stand out to be a major source of income. Unfortunately tourism is a potential sector which is still lagging behind due to the reason of insurgency from past few decades.
Transportation is still a step behind in this state. Railway network is very minimal in this state. Only three national highways run through this state, which are coded as NH-61, NH-36 and NH-39. Only one domestic airport is operational which is also not present in the state capital, Kohima but present in Dimapur which is seventy kilometre’s from it.
Another major employment sector here in this state is art and craft. For many years now, Nagas have practised the tradition of art and craft work. Handicrafts are made on a large scale. Skilled craftsmen living in Nagaland have mastered the profession of making handicrafts which allows them to stay self sufficient. These people are experts in making Fine storage baskets, containers and wicker drinking vessels. Black smithy is another employment option here in Nagaland. The art of making weapons from metal resources has paved way for making ornaments and utility products. Many tribes indulge themselves in making metallic ornaments which attract the tourists to a great extent.
