Himachal Pradesh, a state in India, is located in the north-west and is well-known for all its employment opportunities. It is located 450 m above sea-level and bordered by the states, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh. It was recognized as a state in the year 1971 and it has one of the highest per capita income. Shimla is the capital city of HP and other major cities include Dharamshala, Chamba, and Manali. The northern Himachal is very hot in the summers and has very cold winters, even snowfall. Most of the people living here are Hindus and there a number of Buddhists living on the borders of the state.
The education system is very good in Himachal Pradesh and it has one of the highest literacy rates. The state contains several colleges and universities for further education. Himachal Pradesh University and National Institute of Technology (NIT) are the two main institutions in the state. The government is developing more colleges and making the education system stronger so every child can have a sold education and later a job to support themselves.
This state is well known for it’s tourism. Almost seventy percent of the land is covered by forests and hence contains a wide diversity of plants and animals. There are many wild parks and sanctuaries such as Daranghati Sanctuary, Lippa Asrang Sanctuary, Kanawar Sanctuary, Great Himalayan National Park etc. The government is paying attention to conservation of forests and is developing laws against cutting down of trees.
The economy of this state is mainly in three categories: agriculture, tourism, and hydrel power. Ninety-three percent of the employment is through agriculture; the cereals that are mainly grown are wheat, rice, and maize. Potatoes, mushrooms, chicory seeds, olives, and figs are also grown here. Seed potatoes are very healthy and disease free and they are a main source of income. Fruit cultivation is also a major of income to farmers and around 300 crores is made yearly. Himachal Pradesh is well known for the wide variety of fruits and it is called the ‘Apple State of India’. Under agriculture, animal husbandry plays a major role. Animal husbandry is the proper use of cattle and their products and development of schemes to protect these animals.
There are also many hydel projects that are developing in this state. These are Duhangan Hydro Electric Project , Baspa Hydro Electric Project , Dhamwari Sunda Hydro Electric Project , Allian ,Swara-Kuddu, Budhil ,Holi Hydro Electric Project , ranging from 70MW to 300MW. The state also makes business from tourism, as it is one of India’s most popular tourist site. Crores of money was spent on road construction and development of transport system. Once can have a career in the field of agriculture, tourism or power systems. Hence, these are all the major employment areas in the state of Himachal Pradesh.
