Jobs in Assam

Assam is Popularly called as the land of the red river and blue hills; Assam is the gateway to the northeastern part of India. The Kingdom of Bhutan and Arunachal Pradesh border Assam in the North and East. Along the south lie Nagaland, Manipur and Mizoram. Meghalaya lies to her Southwest, Bengal and Bangladesh to her West.

The major modes of transportation in Assam are roadways, railways, airways and inland waterways. At present, there are two roads cum rail bridges and one Road Bridge over the River Brahmaputra connecting the place well by land. Assam is well connected with the rest of India by air. Both private and Government owned airlines operate in this sector. There are also regular intra-state air services connecting the six civil airports (Gujarat, Tezpur, Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Silchar & North Lakhimpur) of the state. International flights from Guwahati to Bangkok has been started to boost trade and tourism in the northeast. The tea and trading industry are the major sources of income to the state and provides to hundreds of people.

The public sector is the major employer of the state. The State has a wide postal network with about 4000 post offices dispersed throughout the states. Apart from the postal department there are banks, police stations, hospitals in the public sector proving many jobs. The present telecommunication network in the state is growing fast in comparison to the other parts of the country. Currently, individuals and industry alike face no problems in procuring telephone and other telecommunications facilities. The telecommunications companies are providing jobs to many freshers and technical graduates.

Assam has one of the largest networks of higher education institutions in the entire Northeastern region of India. Assam’s largest city Guwahati is a major destination for education for students of the entire northeastern region. Institutions like the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati, National Institute of Technology, Silchar and Guwahati University are among the top institutions of the country that provide quality education to the students. The state has 5 universities; one deemed university, one institute of national importance and several reputed professional colleges. Teaching profession can be taken up in these prestigious institutions.

The planner and leaders of this remote and small area are trying hard to develop the infrastructure sector, educational sector and industry sector thereby accelerating the pace of economic development. Consequently, construction of roads, bridges, dams, hydal power projects and development of townships has been taken up on a large scale. Such developmental projects are providing jobs to innumerable number of people.
