A post graduate is usually preferred for research or teaching posts and management positions. An additional degree in business administration is desirable for those seeking management positions. The institutes offering these courses are IITs in Delhi, Mumbai, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur which are the most prestigious engineering institutes in India. The focus in the study program is mainly on understanding electronic networks and devices, electromagnetic field theory, fundamentals in computer, communication and control systems. They should have good analytic skills, an eye for detail, sustained attention, ability to work in a team apart from having excellent communication skills.

Electronics engineers are employed in Central and state government and other organizations like AIR, Communications industry, Civil Aviation department, Post and telegraph department, Bharat electronics limited etc. which deal with the manufacture, sales and services of electronic goods and appliances. Electronic engineers are also absorbed in entertainment industry, research developments and defense and they can also get into teaching field and choose teaching as their career in various engineering colleges both in India and abroad. They can also start their own business by manufacturing small electronic parts, goods and components. Loans are also offered by banks and small scale industries corporation to start a business and since it is a labour intensive and talent oriented field, it gives high returns for the initial investment.
